What JAKIM Halal Certification Means When You Buy Our Cakes

If you sell cakes to Muslim customers in Malaysia, or export to halal markets, your supplier's halal status is not a small detail. It is usually the first thing your own customers will ask about. Yummies Food is a halal cake manufacturer in Malaysia, and our products are Halal certified by JAKIM. Here is what that certificate actually covers, why it matters to you as a buyer, and how you can check it yourself.

What is JAKIM?

JAKIM (Jabatan Kemajuan Islam Malaysia, or the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia) is the government body that manages halal certification in Malaysia, together with the state Islamic religious departments. Halal certification for food in Malaysia is assessed against the Malaysian Standard MS 1500:2019, Halal Food – General Requirements.

The JAKIM Halal logo is well known to Muslim shoppers in Malaysia, and it is respected by halal buyers in many other countries.

What halal certification actually checks

Many people think halal simply means "no pork and no alcohol". For a food factory, it goes much further than that. Certification looks at the whole journey of the product:

  • Ingredients and suppliers. Every ingredient must come from a halal source. That includes the flour, eggs and cream, and also the "hidden" items such as flavourings, colourings and emulsifiers. Suppliers must provide proof.
  • Production. Equipment and production lines must be free from contamination with anything non-halal.
  • Cleaning and hygiene. How the factory is cleaned, and with what, is part of the assessment.
  • Storage and transport. Raw materials and finished cakes must be kept and moved in a way that protects their halal status.
  • Packaging and labelling. Only certified products may carry the Halal logo.
  • People. The company must have trained staff who are responsible for halal compliance.
  • Inspection. JAKIM officers audit the factory on site before the certificate is issued, and certified companies remain under JAKIM's monitoring.

Why it matters when you buy from us

For retailers and distributors. Muslim shoppers look for the Halal logo before they buy. A certified supplier makes your listing easier and gives your customers confidence.

For OEM and private-label partners. When we make cakes under your brand, your name is on the pack. Your customers will trust the product as much as they trust its halal status. Working with a JAKIM-certified factory protects your brand.

For export buyers. Every country has its own rules for imported halal food, so please check the requirements of your market. We can provide copies of our certificates to support your import paperwork.
